With dual-energy Rate DT, it’s best for a customer to use electricity to heat their home when the temperature is above or equal to -12°C or -15°C (depending on where you live), when the lower price applies to electricity used. However, when the outdoor temperature falls below this point, it costs less to use an auxiliary heating source, such as oil. The price of heating oil varies greatly and is currently at its lowest level over the past five years. This low price reduces the cost of fuel for our Rate DT customers, which allows them substantial savings.
Dual-energy systems reduce the total amount of electricity used in Québec during the peak demand period in winter when electricity demand is very high.
