Thank you for your question on a topic that is making the news these days. We already do, in fact, offer rates to support Québec greenhouse growers!
In 2013, after discussions with industry representatives, we implemented two measures to provide better support:
Additional Electricity Option (OEA) for photosynthetic lighting. In exchange for a lower rate, customers may have the power supply for their greenhouse lighting interrupted a few hours per day in very cold spells.
Dual-energy rate for qualified farms that have dual-energy heating systems. This preferential rate is lower, except during cold snaps.
These measures enable growers to save an average of 40% on their electricity bills, for annual savings of about $60,000 for a 600-kW setup and $320,000 for a 3,000-kW installation.
We are aware of the economic situation of greenhouse growers and are continuing to work with industry representatives.
