The vast majority of outages are caused by bad weather. Just like in other parts of the world, extreme weather can hit Québec. Although we can’t control nature, we can control our actions and mitigate the impact of such weather events.
Hydro-Québec’s power system is adapted to the weather conditions of each region. We have invested to make our system more robust by reinforcing equipment, adding redundant sources of supply, carrying out vegetation control, and conducting R&D to better understand these events and improve the mechanical resistance of equipment.
