There are no double meter reading fees, since electricity rates, which include a daily reading, do not cover the fees for manually reading non-communicating meters.
However, for customers who have opted out of a next-generation meter (and therefore have non-communicating meters that must be read manually), the Régie de l’énergie determined that they would be billed a $5 monthly meter-reading charge to cover the costs of sending someone to read the meter manually.
It is therefore false to state that our customers have been overbilled or double-billed for meter reading since the introduction of next-generation meters. Since 2013, we have categorically refuted these allegations as well as all other erroneous information in the medias.
