We are indeed very active on northeastern North American energy markets!
The New England states, including Massachusetts, actually make up one single wholesale market to which we sell a lot of power. Various electricity utilities, including those in Massachusetts, then distribute the electricity and sell it to their residential and business customers.
As for the New York market, it accounts for roughly 25 to 30% of our exports from year to year.
In 2014, the average export price for all our markets was around 6 ¢/kWh. Note that this is a wholesale price; it does not include transmission and distribution costs. As such, it cannot be compared with Hydro-Québec’s rates, which include all these costs.
Our exports accounted for $814 of Hydro-Québec’s net income in 2014.
