First of all, reducing your energy consumption helps you save on your own electricity bill. In addition to benefiting personally, you are also leaving a smaller environmental footprint, which will benefit the entire community as well as future generations.
It’s true that we currently have surplus energy. These surpluses, which are sold on external markets, help us generate a significant return, most of which is paid to the Québec government in the form of dividends. Last year alone, electricity sales on neighboring markets generated profits of more than $800 million, a significant contribution to the province’s public expenses.
