Thank you for your question.
You are right; we are strongly committed to transportation electrification. However, becoming a vehicle manufacturer does not fall within Hydro-Québec’s mandate. Here is some more information about our involvement in the field:
TM4, a Hydro-Québec subsidiary, is very active in the electric vehicle market and has recently signed several agreements, notably to sell electric motor systems for buses in China, thanks to its joint venture Prestolite Electric Propulsion Systems.
In addition, a major partnership was announced on January 20, 2016, [link in French only]. It covered $16 million in financial aid for an innovative research and development project to share expertise in the field of components for high-performance electric vehicles. This project will be run by a joint venture set up by PSA Peugeot Citroën, Exagon Motors, Investissement Québec and IndusTech, a Hydro-Québec subsidiary.
