If you have a next-generation meter, it automatically sends us your consumption data, so you no longer have to send us your meter reading.
As with the old meter, you can still find out how much energy you are using per day or month. Simply take the number of kWh displayed and subtract the number of kWh you previously recorded. You will also find your average daily consumption on your bill.
If you have opted for a non-communicating meter, you must pay the meter reading charge of $5 a month. You don’t have to take the readings yourself since the Régie de l’énergie requires that Hydro-Québec take three readings a year to ensure that bills are reasonably precise. The Régie doesn’t consider customer-submitted readings to be a meter reading method, but rather an occasional workaround for when a meter is inaccessible.
