No, that’s untrue. All meters belong to Hydro-Québec and we are responsible for upkeep. However, your home’s electrical installation, including the socket into which the meter is inserted, is your responsibility (see image below, in French only).
In accordance with current regulations, Hydro-Québec checks its meters periodically to make sure they are working properly. We are responsible for maintaining our metering equipment and repairing or replacing it if defective.
Note that customers are not authorized to modify or tamper with meters. If you think there is a problem with a meter, don’t hesitate to call us at 1 855 462-1029. In addition, only master electricians can carry out repairs on residential electrical installations.
