During winter, Hydro-Québec’s power grid is in particularly high demand during certain times of the day, i.e., between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. and between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. We may ask for the public’s help in reducing electricity demand for during these periods. Hydro-Québec thereby avoids purchasing energy at high prices on external markets. Since these purchases have an impact on rates, when we avoid purchasing on external markets, everybody wins.
You pay the same rate at all times. Hydro-Québec ran a pilot project to verify the relevance of having a variable rate depending on the time and season. However, the results were inconclusive. This is why we do not offer different rates depending on the time of day.
