When there is a fire, Hydro-Québec recovers the meters or its parts, as required by Measurement Canada, to ensure the equipment’s traceability. Various types of special tests can be done on the recovered meters or meter parts by the fire department or the insurance company, to whom the meters are given upon request.
At the request of fire department, our crews maintain communication with them and cooperate with the investigation. Note that since the start of the rollout of next-generation meters in February 2013, no fire has been related to a meter. Independent experts have shown that it the customer’s socket was defective.
